SELF AND OTHERS, 1st solo painting exhibition by Hasura Akther Rumky explore the relationship between personal identity and the surrounding social world. Through expressive figurative paintings, the artist reflects on the philosophical encounter between the ‘self’ and ‘others’, revealing themes of empathy, connection and lived experience.
The exhibition features several painting series inspired by rickshaw pullers, mystic Bauls, pigeons, portraits and self-portraits. By translating Dhaka’s vibrant rickshaw art culture and everyday human stories into painting, Rumky highlights both the beauty of a fading visual tradition and the emotional realities of marginal lives. Her works combine vibrant colours and expressive forms, inviting viewers to reflect on human relationships, compassion and the search for self-understanding.
