BANGLA CALLIGRAPHY ON ANTIQUE DOCUMENTS

'দলিলে দৃশ্যপট'- প্রাচীন দলিলে বাংলা ক্যালিগ্রাফি / 'DECORATED DEEDS' - Bangla Calligraphy on Antique Documents presents Arham-ul-Huq Chowdhury’s new series of Bangla calligraphy works created on rare antique documents, some dating back more than a century and spanning the East India Company era to the early twentieth century. Through this exhibition, the artist breathes new life into historical records that once formed part of Bengal’s legal, social, and cultural landscape, layering them with expressive calligraphic interpretations of traditional Bangla proverbs and idioms. Each work creates a dialogue between past and present, where the weathered surfaces of archival documents meet dynamic contemporary mark-making, transforming familiar wisdom into compelling visual narratives.

Organized and curated by ARTCON in collaboration with Alliance Française de Dhaka, Decorated Deeds reflects a shared commitment to engaging with cultural heritage through contemporary artistic practice. By bringing together language, history, and material memory, the exhibition invites viewers to reflect on the enduring relevance of collective knowledge and the stories embedded within the documents of the past.
