Sourav Chowdhury is a dynamic contemporary Bangladeshi visual artist, printmaker, sculptor, and Artistic Director of Gallery Cosmos and Cosmos Atelier-71, whose work celebrates myth, memory, and the enduring human impulse to imagine. Born in Rajshahi in 1987, he earned both his BFA and MFA in Drawing & Painting from University of Development Alternative (UODA).

Over the past decade and a half, Sourav has developed two major bodies of work: “Civilization” — a long-running series that interweaves mythology, world‑heritage motifs, and primitive cave‑painting references — and “Eternal Existence” — a vivid fantasy universe in which folk‑style figures and ancient‑world symbolism merge in dreamlike, uplifting compositions. In his own words, he seeks to “turn dismal, horrific, and awful human nature into something beautiful, jovial and uplifting,” using bright colours, spirited characters, and rhythmic composition to evoke a sense of hope and wonder.

Beyond painting, Sourav has expanded into printmaking—etching and aquatint—and sculpture (ceramic, metal, fibre), and installations. His fifth solo show, “Eternal Existence”, opened in July 2023 at Alliance Française de Dhaka (AFD), presenting around 30 works, the including prints and mixed-media sculptures, and was inaugurated by renowned artists and critics.

His work has been recognized with prestigious awards such as the Bengal Foundation Award (Printmaking) at the 22nd National Art Exhibition (2017), and the Best Award at the 20th Berger Young Painters' Art Competition (BYPAC, 2015). Today, Sourav Chowdhury stands as a vibrant voice in Bangladesh’s contemporary art scene — a storyteller of civilisations, a magician of myth and memory.
